Course Goals and Description:

 

  • Examine leadership opportunities related to the horticulture industry.
  • Examine careers related to horticulture.
  • Summarize plant anatomy.
  • Examine factors relating to plant growth and development.
  • Explain properties of soils.
  • Explain the role of nutrients and fertilizers
  • Compare distinguishing characteristics of pests
  • Explain IPM and pesticides.

 

Required Materials:

  1. 1 ½ inch binder
  2. Dividers
  3. Pencils and Pens
  4. Loose leaf paper
  5. Students are required to work in the greenhouse and outside in the landscapes.  Therefore they need to have closed toe shoes available.

 

Possible Assignments:

  1. Quizzes
  2. Tests
  3. Assignments (Book, on-line, vocabulary)
  4. Notebook checks (to make sure students is preparing for exam)

Grading Policy

 

  • All grades are counted equally except projects which will count 3 grades each.

     

  • A (90 - 100)

B (80 - 89)

C (70 - 79)

D (60 - 69)

F (  0 - 59)

 

*Students are required to take the CTE Post Assessment Exam

 

 

                Final Average Computation

 

1st  9 weeks average = 40%                          

2nd 9 weeks average = 40%

Final Exam:               

          CTE Post Assessment = 10%

          Notebook/Portfolio     = 10%

 

 

Classroom Rules and Classroom Discipline

 

  1. Be in your seat when the bell rings.
  2. No food, drink, gum or candy.
  3. Do not sit on desks.
  4. Be respectful of others and their belongings.
  5. You cannot be in the shop or greenhouse without permission.
  6. You will be considered “skipping” if you are “out of area”.
