Course Description:  This course is designed to help students expand their understanding of financing and trends of health care agencies, fundamentals of wellness, legal and ethical issues, concepts of teamwork, and effective communication. Students will learn health care skills, including CPR and first aid training. English, language arts, and science are reinforced in this course. Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course include internship, mentorship, service learning, and job shadowing. Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.

Enhanced Description:  This honors course extends the Standard Course of Study to a higher, more challenging, and rigorous level.  Students will obtain OSHA, American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR, and First Aid Certification.

Classroom Expectations


Bring notebook and writing utensil to class every day

All students are to sit in their seats when the bell rings and begin warm-up activity

All school rules will be followed

No talking between students when the teacher is talking

Be respectful of each person and their opinion

All medical equipment, models, computer, and teacher’s desk are off limits without permission




All quizzes count once and tests count twice.

Written reports/oral presentations will equal at least one test grade per assignment

10 point Grading Scale


Students will have 5 days from the day he/she returns from an absence to make up work/test. If out of class for a school activity, the work will be made up the following day.
