Health Team Relations Syllabus

Course Goals and Objectives:  This course is designed to introduce students to the health care delivery system, the development of leadership and interpersonal skills, career awareness and character development. This course integrates basic reading, writing, and math skills and related disciplines with the knowledge, skills and behaviors needed by future contributing members of a world-class healthcare workforce.

Possible Assignments:

Quizzes, Tests, and Projects

Grading Policy:  Quizzes count once and tests count twice.

Projects will be individualized.

Grading will be on a 10 point scale.

Students will have 5 days from the day he/she returns from an absence to make up work/test. If out of class for a school activity, the work will be made up the following day.

Classroom Expectations:

Bring notebook and writing utensil to class every day.

All students are to sit in their seats when the bell rings and begin warm-up activity.

All school rules will be followed.

No talking between students when the teacher is talking.

Be respectful of each person and their opinion.

All medical equipment, models, computer, and teacher’s desk are off limits without permission.

Course Objectives:

  1. Evaluate historical contributions in the development of health care.

  2. Use medical abbreviations and terminology.

  3. Analyze services provided in the health care delivery system.

  4. Demonstrate the personal and professional standards of health care workers.

  5. Analyze medical and health care careers.

  6. Analyze legal and ethical responsibilities in health care.

  7. Analyze cultural diversity in the delivery of health care.

  8. Analyze the use of medical math in the health care system.

  9. Identify and explore selected topics that relate to the health care community and pursuit of a health profession.
